Understand the purpose, structure and expectations of the ICF Mentor Coach Specialization and how the Credit for Prior Learning Path recognises substantial prior experience.
Translate what you already do into the six ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies, from ethical practice and agreements to formative appraisal, skill development and group mentor coaching.
Refine how you observe live or recorded coaching, identify evidence at ACC, PCC and MCC levels, and offer clear, non-judgmental developmental feedback.
Complete 10 hours of mentor coaching education aligned with the ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies, one of the requirements for the Credit for Prior Learning Path.
Philosophy
We approach the ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies as a practical framework for ethical, relational and evidence-informed work. Observation and evaluation matter, but they always serve learning, confidence and sustainable skill development.
You will connect your existing experience to a clearer professional framework and leave better equipped to establish agreements, manage the learning process, conduct formative appraisals and facilitate meaningful development at ACC, PCC and MCC levels.
You will not leave with a script. You will leave with a richer relationship to your own coaching — and the confidence and skill to hold that space for others.
"The purpose is not to create copies of the mentor coach. It is to help each coach develop competence in a way that remains genuinely their own."
The right fit
This program is specifically designed for experienced mentor coach practitioners who intend to apply through the ICF Credit for Prior Learning Path.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the program, you will have connected your prior experience to the full ICF Mentor Coaching Competency Model and completed 10 hours of aligned education.
Apply the ICF Code of Ethics, clarify the distinctions between coaching, mentor coaching, supervision and assessment, and manage recordings and sensitive data responsibly.
Establish transparent agreements for the engagement and each session, including goals, responsibilities, confidentiality and the desired ACC, PCC or MCC standard.
Co-create an inclusive learning environment, tailor development plans and make room for reflection, practice and integration between sessions.
Observe coaching evidence and discuss strengths, growth opportunities and developmental trends in relation to ACC, PCC and MCC performance expectations.
Offer specific, non-judgmental observations and guidance while helping each coach integrate new learning with their own values and unique coaching style.
Create collaborative group learning, facilitate practice and demonstration, manage group dynamics and invite meaningful participation from every member.
Program structure
The five live online sessions translate the six ICF Mentor Coaching Competencies into practical mentor coaching work for ACC, PCC and MCC specialization levels.
Session 1 · 2 hours
We establish the professional foundation of mentor coaching: ethical practice, role clarity, data protection and the distinctions between coaching, mentor coaching, coaching supervision, performance assessment, therapy and other support roles.
Session 2 · 2 hours
Learn to contract clearly for the overall engagement and for individual sessions. We explore developmental goals, measures of success, credential-level expectations, learning preferences and how to design enough space for practice and integration.
Session 3 · 2 hours
Develop critical listening and observation skills for live and recorded coaching. Learn to identify competency evidence, clarify expectations at ACC, PCC and MCC levels, and partner with the coach to explore strengths, opportunities and patterns across sessions.
Session 4 · 2 hours
Move from observation into development. Practise offering clear and non-judgmental feedback, modelling coaching competencies, acknowledging strengths and guiding improvement without imposing your own style on the coach.
Session 5 · 2 hours
Integrate the full competency model and explore the specific demands of group mentor coaching. We conclude by mapping the Credit for Prior Learning requirements and clarifying the separate evaluation training and evidence needed for ACC, PCC and MCC applications.
